KazakhstanUNSC.com – a multilingual website dedicated to Kazakhstan’s bid to secure a seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the years 2017/18 – is pleased to present its first Occasional Paper, entitled “Kazakhstan and Global Security – Bridging East and West”.
This is the first in a series of informative Occasional Papers which will seek to explore the many different social, political and economic aspects of Kazakhstan and its UNSC bid, and follows our Introductory Paper, published in June 2014.
The Paper addresses and summarizes Kazakhstan’s commitment to promote global security, which is not new but dates back to its Independence in 1991 and has evolved with the global security environment ever since. Kazakhstan is in a unique position to provide constructive mediation, as witnessed by its active role in peacekeeping missions – UN and otherwise – around the world, and the hosting of crucial summits between global powers.
It is this consistently high level of cooperation and dedication which led then-US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to state that “we view Kazakhstan as not just a regional presence but a global leader” in the fight against threats to global security.
