On 28 March 2016 “HIGH-LEVEL SYMPOSIUM: SYNERGIES ALONG THE SILK ROAD FOR AGENDA 2030” was held at the United Nations Headquarters, ECOSOC Chamber New York.
The Symposium is organized by the Turkic World Educational and Scientific Cooperation Organization (TWESCO), also known as International Turkic Academy; and supported by the Permanent Missions of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey to the United Nations and the Think-tank Caspian Strategy Institute (HASEN).
The High-level Symposium entitled “Synergies Along the Silk Road for Agenda 2030”, seeks to highlight the important role the region can play in advancing the initiatives spearheaded by the United Nations. The countries of the region are deeply engaged as catalysts, partners and supporters of these initiatives.
This high-level meeting aims to discuss ways to maximize the development impact of the Silk Road in support of Agenda 2030. During the symposium the global impact of the activities carried out throughout the Silk Road will be discussed.
Furthermore, it will provide an opportunity to address concerns related to transnational challenges that can derail peace and progress across many regions. The gathering will thus serve as a platform for exchange of views by policy makers and academicians on issues of relevance to the United Nations.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev addressed the audience with welcoming remarks on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
